CEO MESSAGE
In recognition of more than three decades of community leadership, advocacy, and neighborhood transformation, the Bronx Borough President, Vanessa L. Gibson, officially proclaimed Nos Quedamos Day during our 30th Anniversary Celebration. This special designation honors the collective efforts of residents, partners, and supporters who helped turn the vision of Melrose Commons into a national/international model of community-driven revitalization and affordable housing preservation.
This year, we are proud to continue that tradition by celebrating Nos Quedamos Day with the launch of our first-ever Comedy for a Cause fundraiser, Preservation, Purpose & Punchlines. Through an evening of laughter, community, and storytelling, we will celebrate our shared accomplishments while raising critical support for the work ahead, preserving affordable housing, strengthening resident leadership, and ensuring the South Bronx remains a place where families can continue to thrive for generations to come.
Throughout the evening, we'll celebrate the people behind this work by sharing stories of resilience, collective action, and the lasting impact that community-driven change can have across generations. While you'll leave with plenty of laughs, we hope you'll also leave inspired by what we can accomplish when we invest in preserving not just buildings, but the people, culture, and neighborhoods that make Melrose home.
Together, we can ensure that preservation remains more than a promise. It remains a pathway to opportunity, stability, and a thriving community for generations to come.

This year's We Are Melrose (WAM) Festival brought our community together around the theme of Preserving Melrose Commons, celebrating everything that makes our neighborhood strong while reflecting on what is at stake for its future. Throughout the day, residents learned about the importance of preserving the Melrose Urban Renewal Plan and what its eventual expiration could mean for affordable housing, community spaces, and the legacy generations of residents have built together.
From live performances and music to community resources, giveaways, and neighborhood connections, WAM was a vibrant celebration of our culture, resilience, and collective power. More than a festival, it was a reminder that preserving Melrose is about protecting our homes, honoring our history, and ensuring future generations can continue to thrive in the community we all call home.
Once again, we want to thank our funders at the New York State Council on the Arts for making this happen.
