Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that a Bronx Man was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 years post release supervision for raping a woman at knifepoint in Saint Mary’s Park.
District Attorney Clark said, “Thanks to the swift actions of the victim’s son, authorities were able to apprehend the rapist, and now he will serve 20 years in prison for this brutal attack.”
District Attorney Clark said the defendant, Christopher Martinez, 20, of 620 East 137th Street was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 years post release supervision by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Laurence Busching on December 12, 2023. The defendant pleaded guilty on November 6, 2023 to first-degree Rape and first-degree Criminal Sexual Act.
According to the investigation, on May 31, 2022, the defendant was waiting near the victim’s home in Mott Haven after she dropped one of hersons off atschool. Martinez approached her and robbed her at knifepoint of $60 and a credit card. He then took her to Saint Mary’s Park where he raped her. The victim’s other son was home and called the police when he noticed his mother had not returned home from dropping his brother off, and then saw her with the defendant nearby. DNA collected from the victim after the rape matched the defendant’s DNA.
District Attorney Clark thanked Detective Eddy Soriano of the NYPD Bronx Special Victims Squad for his work on the case.
