Chalk Art Fest
Thursday, September 5 - 4pm to 7pm
FREE street chalk drawing event led by Ghana-born, Bronx artist Tijay Mohammed.
Create temporary art inspired by Adinkra and Uli symbols of West Africa, which adopt the spirit of the human body using basic geometric and abstract shapes, animals, and floral designs.

This community interactive workshop series featuring Juan Usera and the Sambuco Tribe, introduces the traditional musical genres of Bomba and Plena. Participants will learn Bomba and Plena dances, drum patterns, piquetes (dance improvisation), and songs.

Birding with NYC Bird Alliance (formerly NYC Audubon)

Explore Van Cortlandt Park’s ecologically diverse grounds and celebrate a long tradition of birding in the park. Each walk will be led by a NYC Bird Alliance guide.

Aeolian Trio Concert
Saturday, September 14 - 2pm to 3:30pm
The Aeolian Trio, Bruce Huebner, Kôfû Suwa and Todd Isler, play this rate concert as part of their 3-week US tour. The highly regarded group plays atmospheric original compositions for shakuhachi flute, acoustic guitar, and Uduboo drum, an African Ud made from bamboo.

Sunday, September 29 - at 10am
Kids of all ages and abilities can experience the joys of cross country running in Van Cortlandt Park! Registration for this event is FREE and open to participants ages 2 to 18 of all abilities. Every finisher will receive a New Balance souvenir. Hosted by VCPA supporter, New York Road Runners.
