Sandra Pabon Way

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the mid 80's, a perfect day on the corner of East 204th Street and Hull Avenue to honor a woman who was remembered by neighborhood people, friends, state legislators, borough wide elected officials, and a member of congress. It was the street co-naming for Sandra Pabon who was loved by almost everyone.

Councilman Eric Dinowitz put this street co-naming together, and was joined by State Senators Jamaal Bailey and Nathalia Fernandez, Assembly members John Zaccaro and Jeffrey Dinowitz, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and District Attorney Darcel Clark, and Congressman Ritchie Torres. They were joined by dozens of other friends and neighbors of Sandra Pabon who waited two year for this remembrance that will live on.

During her speech State Senator Fernandez broke into tears as she remembered Sandra. The funniest line may have come from Bronx DA Clark who said "I don't get to name streets after people, I only get to indict them." Sandra Pabon's daughter Alexandria Arriaga thanked everyone for coming to this tribute of her mom with her three children at her side. The rope was then untwirled connected to the covering of a new street sign, and "Sandra Pabon Way" was uncovered at the corner of East 204th Street Hull Avenue. The family was given a second street sign which they and the elected officials posed with for a photo.

Councilman Eric Dinowitz presided over the street co-naming to remember Sandra Pabon.

Tears came to State Senator Nathalia Fernandez's eyes as she remembered Sandra Pabon.

State Senator and Bronx Democratic Party Leader Jamaal Bailey spoke of the hard work for the party that  District Leader Sandra Pabon did.

Bronx Borough President Vanesa Gibson came from her Orchard Beach concert to honor Sandra Pabon.

Assemblyman John Zaccaro Jr. had only kind words for his former District Leader Sandra Pabon.

Sandra Pabon's Daughter Alex, thanked everyone who came out for the street co-naming to honor her mother.

As the rope is pulled, it reveals the new street sign that was added to the pole.
