Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson - Community Resources & Updates

Dear Neighbor,

This past Thanksgiving season, we proudly partnered with our colleagues in government and community organizations to distribute over 2000 turkeys and other food items to families across the Bronx. These efforts demonstrate our shared dedication to supporting our neighbors and helping every family celebrate the holidays with dignity, warmth, and gratitude. Thank you to all the organizations, volunteers, and leaders who contributed to making this season of giving meaningful and memorable for those in need.

And our season of giving is not over! We are partnering with Televisa Univision and other event sponsors on Friday, December 5th, to host our Annual Tree Lighting Extravaganza Winter Wonderland at Lou Gehrig Plaza. We will be distributing toys and treats to our Bronx families from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Stop by to receive a gift and invite your friends, family, and neighbors to join us as well.

Lastly, applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will be accepted beginning Monday, December 1. HEAP can help eligible New Yorkers heat their homes during the winter months. Click here for more information on this program and to see if you are eligible to receive assistance.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Our team partnered with Bronx Fathers Taking Action and our community partners for our Movember: Mind, Body & Community event at Bronx Legends Boxing Gym.

We brought together fathers and youth for an afternoon focused on wellness, mentorship, and connection.

Thank you to our sponsors for your support and everyone who showed up, and supported this space for dialogue, movement, and community healing.

We’re proud to support Governor Kathy Hochul’s $5 million allocation to the Maryam Reproductive Health + Wellness Center, aimed at reducing maternal mortality and establishing a Bronx-based birthing center.

This important investment, coupled with an expansion of the Child Tax Credit program and a new Baby Benefit initiative, will address the affordability crisis in our state for families and new mothers.

We are grateful to everyone who came out to support our Hurricane Melissa Relief Drive. Together with our colleagues in government, we collected essential supplies to help families affected by the storm.

We celebrated Puerto Rican heritage at our “Yo Soy Boricua” celebration on Wednesday, November 13th, at La Bodega on 696 E. 135th Street. An evening of culture, pride, and community as we honored the vibrant spirit of Borinquen!

Last month, we hosted our Youth Town Hall, where our Bronx Youth Council led a conversation on public safety. This event aimed to empower the next generation of Bronx changemakers and foster a culture of civic engagement, where young voices help shape the future of our borough.

We celebrated the soft launch of the Bronx STEAM Center!

This is a transformative new hub that prepares our Bronx scholars for high-demand careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

Through industry-aligned, project-based learning, work-based experiences, early college credits, and career credentials, students will acquire the skills and support necessary to confidently step into the workforce or continue their education.

We’re excited to have invested $1.5 million into this project and to see the Bronx STEAM Center become a launchpad for the next generation of healthcare professionals, technologists, and innovators shaping our borough’s future.

Thank you to Montefiore Einstein, NYC Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos, Superintendent Marcel Deans, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Dr. Meisha Ross Porter, and everyone else who has helped to make this dream a reality for our Bronx scholars.
