GrowNYC distributes 130,000 plants to community groups
The big picture: GrowNYC’s annual Plant Sale has helped New York communities to cultivate fresh fruits, vegetables, and native plants & flowers for their communities. GrowNYC is on a mission to ensure that vibrant green spaces are accessible to everyone, bringing nature's abundance to every community!
By sourcing seedlings wholesale from Greenmarket farmers, GrowNYC is able to distribute plants to eligible community groups at a wholesale group price.
By the numbers: In 2024, GrowNYC distributed 130,000 plants – enough plants to cover the Brooklyn Bridge with plants!
On pick-up days, dozens of varieties of seedlings are picked up by hundreds of NYC community gardens, neighborhood beautification projects and other sustainable urban-agricultural programs.
Why it matters: Community gardens serve as essential havens of beauty and play a crucial role in fostering community connections and enhancing resilience to climate change.
They contribute to increased biodiversity, reduced stormwater runoff, mitigation of urban heat effects, and the enhancement of local food production and food security.
Gardens and green spaces inspire communities to collectively address challenges while building lasting bonds with nature and each other.

Get involved in 2025
GrowNYC’s annual Plant Sale is for community gardens, schools, block associations, churches and community based groups only. Groups must order in advance during the ordering window.
