IN THE COMMUNITY

Grateful to have attended last week’s D9 Legislative Luncheon alongside School District 9 Principals and Superintendent Staff.

Special thanks to Superintendent Harry Sherman, CS 55 Principal Luis Torres, Council Member Althea Stevens, Senator Luis Sepulveda, Senator Robert Jackson, and Assembly Member Landon Dais for their inspiring leadership and commitment to our schools and community!

It has been three years since the tragic fire at Twin Parks North West, and our borough continues to mourn.

We will never forget the 17 precious lives lost on that day, the families whose lives were forever changed by this tragedy, the courage of our first responders, and the immense support from our city agencies, community organizations, colleagues in government, hip-hop artists, and so many others who came together to support our neighbors in their time of need.

The tragedy at Twin Parks serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to invest in fire safety education and to address the critical gaps in our city’s housing infrastructure, ensuring that every family has access to safe, quality housing and preventing such a devastating event from ever occurring again.

Three years later, we pause to honor, reflect, and remember. Let us keep the families of Twin Parks in our thoughts and prayers, and never forget those we lost.

We had a productive meeting with our Bronx BID (Business Improvement District) directors this week to discuss our 2025 priorities. Working collaboratively, we’re committed to increasing economic development initiatives in our borough, supporting our small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs, and enhancing our commercial corridors.

What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a geographical area where local stakeholders oversee and fund the maintenance, improvement, and promotion of their commercial district.

What do they do?

BIDs create vibrant, clean, and safe districts. They deliver services and improvements above and beyond those typically provided by the city. These services can include:

-Street cleaning and maintenance

-Public safety and hospitality

-Marketing and events

-Capital improvements

-Beautification

-Advocacy

-Business development
