BRONX MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR STABBING HIS ROOMMATE TO DEATH DURING FIGHT

Defendant Convicted by Jury of Manslaughter

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that a Bronx man has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for second-degree Manslaughter for fatally stabbing his roommate.

District Attorney Clark said, “The defendant was strangling his girlfriend and when his roommate tried to stop him, the defendant viciously stabbed the man causing his death. This sentence brings justice for the victim and his family.”

District Attorney Clark said the defendant, Akino George, 39, of 1011 Sheridan Avenue, the Bronx, was sentenced today to five to 15 years in prison for second-degree Manslaughter by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Steven Hornstein. He was found guilty by a jury on May 9, 2025.

According to the facts brought out at trial, on March 7, 2022, at approximately 7:35 a.m., in an apartment at 1011 Sheridan Avenue in the Concourse Village section, George was choking and assaulting his girlfriend. George’s roommate, Edwin Acevedo, 30, pushed George out of the apartment and locked the door to stop the assault. George kicked down the door and stabbed Acevedo multiple times in the stomach with a kitchen knife. Acevedo was later pronounced dead at NYC Health+ Hospitals/Lincoln. George fled and was arrested in Massachusetts on October 17, 2022.

District Attorney Clark thanked NYPD Detective Robert Cintron of the Bronx Homicide Squad for his work on the case.
